The Fastly Growth Engineering team is looking for an experienced, highly collaborative full-stack software engineer to evolve, design, build, and own systems & APIs that drive customer growth across Fastly’s product portfolio. Our team owns systems that help Fastly customers discover and adopt the right products for their use cases.. You will design and build new services from the ground up, collaborate closely with product and platform teams, and take projects from ambiguous problem statements through to production. What You'll Do: <ul> <li> Design, build, and own new backend services and APIs end-to-end, from technical proposal through implementation, testing, and production rollout. </li> <li> Contribute to frontend experiences that surface the team’s services to customers </li> <li> Take ambiguous or broadly-scoped problems and turn them into well-defined technical plans that the team can execute on. </li> <li> Author design and architectural documents and use them to drive alignment across engineering and product teams </li> <li> Collaborate with internal platform teams, product managers, and stakeholders across the organization the understand needs and deliver impactful solutions </li> <li> Consider stability, performance, and scalability in your designs and in the guidance you provide to the team </li> <li> Mentor and grow other engineers on the team through code review, pairing, and technical leadership </li> <li> Participate in an on-call rotation </li> </ul> What We're Looking For:  <ul> <li> Hands-on experience designing and building reliable, large-scale backend systems - most Senior Engineers at Fastly have at least 5 years of relevant experience  </li> <li> Strong proficiency in at least one backend language, with the ability to pick up new languages and frameworks quickly </li> <li> Experience designing and implementing new services or systems from scratch (greenfield development) </li> <li> Experience with a relational database is required and nosql database is a big plus </li> <li> Experience writing code that is performant, maintainable, clear, and concise </li> <li> A track record of taking ownership of projects (not just individual tasks) and driving them to successful outcomes </li> <li> Experience authoring technical proposals and design documents to align stakeholders and guide implementation </li> <li> Experience working across teams and functions to understand business needs and deliver software that meets them  </li> <li> Experience mentoring, guiding, and growing other engineers </li> <li> Comfort operating in ambiguity. You can assess feasibility, identify constraints, and formulate a realistic plan even when the problem isn’t fully defined. </li> <li> Ability to learn new skills and share what you’ve learned with the broader team </li> </ul> We’ll be super impressed if you have experience in any of these:  <ul> <li> Experience with Go and/or React </li> <li> Experience with AI/LLM technologies, recommendation systems, data science, or data modeling </li> <li> Experience with or interest in Rust </li> <li> Experience with event-driven architectures (ex: Kafka, message buses) and distributed systems at scale   </li> </ul> Work Hours:  <ul> <li> This position will require you to be available during core business hours.   </li> </ul> Work Location & Travel Requirements:  This position is open to the following office location: <ul> <li> San Francisco, CA </li> </ul> Fastly currently embraces a largely hybrid model for most roles which allows employees flexibility to split their time between the office and home.
