Cloud FinOps Engineer

Daylight is a security services company delivering Managed Agentic Security Services (MASS), including MDR, threat hunting, security data lake, and more, through a fundamentally different architecture than traditional security services providers.

Daylight's architecture combines an agentic platform that runs the full cycle from detection to response with security experts from IR and threat hunting backgrounds. The platform collects identity and business context across systems to investigate alerts and continuously learns your environment. Security experts validate decisions, feed insights into the platform, optimize detections, and take over in case of an incident.

The result: security teams move from firefighting to strategic work.

We’re looking for a Cloud FinOps Engineer to own and drive cloud cost optimization across Daylight’s infrastructure. You’ll work hands-on across AWS, Kubernetes, and our data and observability stack to improve efficiency, optimize cloud spend, and build the tooling and processes that help us scale sustainably.

What You’ll Do

• Own cloud cost as a metric: define, instrument, and report unit economics such as cost per tenant, per GB ingested, and per environment, and drive them down quarter over quarter
• Build cost visibility through tagging and allocation standards, showback across teams and customers, budgets, anomaly detection, and dashboards people actually open
• Find and land savings across compute right-sizing, Karpenter and Spot strategy, commitment coverage, storage lifecycle policies, networking and data transfer, and the long tail of idle resources
• Optimize the cost of our data and observability layers, including streaming ingestion, the data lake and warehouse, and the observability pipeline
• Shift cost left by putting estimates into pull requests and IaC review, so engineers see the price of a change before it ships rather than in next month's bill
• Build and maintain infrastructure as code, our GitOps delivery pipeline, and Kubernetes platform work alongside the rest of the team, and participate in on-call
• Partner with Engineering, Finance, and leadership on forecasting, vendor and contract renewals, and capacity planning

What we're looking for

• 4+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or Platform Engineering, with hands-on responsibility for production workloads on AWS.
• Strong Kubernetes experience, ideally with EKS, including autoscaling and workload right-sizing.
• Strong Infrastructure-as-Code practices using Terraform, with experience working in GitOps-style environments.
• Scripting or development experience in Go, Python, or a similar language, with the ability to automate analysis and build internal tooling.
• Proven ownership of cloud cost optimization initiatives, with measurable results.
• Strong understanding of AWS billing and cost management, including Cost Explorer, CUR, allocation tags, and commitment models.
• Comfortable working in an AI-native environment, using AI tools as part of your day-to-day workflow.
• Able to work independently in a small, fast-moving team and take a problem from initial identification through implementation.
