<p>The Device Identity and Access organization is at the forefront of Okta’s Zero Trust vision. As a foundational pillar within Okta Research and Development (ORD), our mission is to transform the device itself into a secure, trusted, and effortless identity factor. We are the teams responsible for ensuring users can seamlessly interact with their work from any endpoint, anywhere in the world.</p>

<h1><strong>The Engineering Manager Opportunity</strong></h1>
<p>We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Engineering Manager to lead the team building Okta’s Device Identity and Access products. This is a high-visibility, transformative initiative that sits at the absolute core of our Zero Trust strategy. Our team is comprised of elite engineers who bridge the gap between complex client-side telemetry (Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, Linux) and massive-scale backend cloud services. In this role, you will tackle some of the most captivating challenges in the security and identity space. This position offers exceptional executive visibility within Okta’s Device Identity and Access Pillar and presents immense opportunities for career growth as we scale globally.</p>
<h1><strong>What you’ll be doing</strong></h1>
<ul>
<li><strong>Lead and Inspire</strong>: Motivate a cross-functional team of high-performing engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, psychological safety, and operational excellence.</li>
<li><strong>Drive the Vision</strong>: Partner directly with Engineering Directors, Architects, and Product Management to define the long-term technical vision and execute the strategic roadmap.</li>
<li><strong>Ensure Technical Excellence</strong>: Foster an environment that prioritizes system reliability, scalability, and code simplicity. You will actively guide architectural design and participate in critical code reviews.</li>
<li><strong>Build the Team</strong>: Own the recruitment, mentorship, and professional development of your engineers, ensuring they have clear paths for career progression.</li>
<li><strong>Execute with Precision</strong>: Facilitate agile project planning, manage cross-functional dependencies, and ensure the timely, high-quality delivery of critical security features.</li>
<li><strong>Cross-Pillar Impact</strong>: Act as a key technical stakeholder within the broader Access Management Pillar, contributing to initiatives that solve complex business needs.</li>
</ul>
<h1><strong>What you’ll bring to the role</strong></h1>
<ul>
<li><strong>Experience</strong>: 10+ years of experience in enterprise software development, with a proven track record of at least 3 years in formal engineering leadership/management roles.</li>
<li><strong>Technical Depth</strong>: Extensive background in developing massive-scale, multi-tenant SaaS applications (Java/Spring Boot preferred), coupled with a strong conceptual understanding of client-side development (iOS, macOS, Windows, Linux, or Android).</li>
<li><strong>Security Domain Expertise</strong>: Deep understanding of endpoint security concepts, including TPMs, Secure Enclaves, MDM protocols, and continuous risk evaluation.</li>
<li><strong>Cross-Platform Context</strong>: A strong conceptual grasp of how diverse OS-level security features report their state securely to the cloud.</li>
<li><strong>Strategic Communication</strong>: Exceptional communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to executive leadership, influence architectural direction, and champion your team's work.</li>
<li><strong>Modern Engineering Practices</strong>: Proficiency in leveraging AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to accelerate the PDLC while maintaining uncompromising standards for code quality and security.</li>
<li><strong>The Right Mindset</strong>: A genuine passion for cybersecurity, a customer-centric approach, and the ability to thrive in a high-autonomy, high-responsibility environment.</li>
</ul>
<h1><strong>Nice-to-haves</strong></h1>
<ul>
<li>Understanding of modern Identity and Access Management protocols (FIDO, WebAuthn, SSO, SAML, OAuth, Federation).</li>
<li>Knowledge of advanced cybersecurity principles, secure coding practices, and relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, Security+).</li>
<li>Exposure to microservice architecture and distributed systems at scale.</li>
<li>Familiarity with frontend/UI technologies such as ReactJS.</li>
</ul>
<h1><strong>Education</strong></h1>
<p>Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.</p>
