What LinkedIn genuinely does well
Start with the honest case for the incumbent, because it is strong:
- Volume. No other channel puts a posting in front of more working professionals. If your goal is a large applicant pool, LinkedIn delivers one.
- Passive candidates. Most security professionals are not actively job-hunting at any given moment, but most of them are on LinkedIn. It is the one channel where a role can find someone who was not looking - especially powerful paired with recruiter outreach.
- Employer brand. A posting sits next to your company page, your employees, and your content. For a company building name recognition with candidates, that context compounds.

Where LinkedIn strains for security roles
- Generalist noise. A security posting on a generalist platform draws applicants from adjacent IT, help desk, and unrelated fields. The specialized the role, the worse the ratio: the audience that can actually do detection engineering is a sliver of the audience that will click Apply on it.
- Pay-per-click cost dynamics. LinkedIn's promoted-job model charges for attention, not outcomes: budget drains on every click, qualified or not, and cost scales with how contested the audience is. The two-board strategy: use both, deliberately
