"Security analyst" is the most common job title in cybersecurity and the least standardized one. Depending on the employer it means SOC monitoring, vulnerability management, incident triage, compliance evidence work, or all four at once - we currently track 46 live roles carrying the title (or its variants: cybersecurity analyst, information security analyst) across 246 security companies. This guide gives you defensible salary bands for the role in the United States and 20 other countries, what actually moves the number, and the progression math that matters more than any single raise.
One honesty note up front: only 5 of those 46 analyst-titled postings disclose a pay band, which is too thin a sample to publish as a live median. The bands below are our curated benchmarks - maintained against live disclosed postings, salary guides, and the same dataset behind our salary report - and they are the identical numbers every other salary surface on this site uses.
Security analyst salary in the United States
The core analyst seat - SOC and blue-team tier - pays $58,000 to $92,000 in the US. Regulated industries (banking, insurance, healthcare) and government contractors anchor the low-to-middle of that band with real junior seats; product security companies and well-funded tech firms pay the top of it. Titles are slippery here: the same $85,000 job might be posted as security analyst, SOC analyst tier 2, or security operations specialist. Search by the work, not the words.
The number that should actually shape your career planning is the next band up. When an analyst crosses into engineering work - writing detections instead of triaging them, automating the response instead of running it - the market re-prices the same person into the $110,000 to $175,000 security engineer band, and senior security engineers clear $150,000 to $220,000. The analyst-to-engineer move is the single largest pay event available to you; treat every analyst year as preparation for it. The dividing line between the two roles is mapped in security engineer vs security analyst →
Security analyst salary by country
Annual base salary bands in USD for the analyst tier:
| Country | Analyst band (USD) |
|---|---|
| United States | $58,000 - $92,000 |
| Australia | $52,000 - $82,000 |
| Canada | $42,000 - $72,000 |
| Singapore | $42,000 - $68,000 |
| Germany | $38,000 - $62,000 |
| Netherlands | $38,000 - $60,000 |
| United Arab Emirates | $34,000 - $66,000 (tax-free) |
| United Kingdom | $30,000 - $52,000 |
| Saudi Arabia | $30,000 - $58,000 (tax-free) |
| Kenya | $10,000 - $18,000 |
| Mexico | $10,000 - $22,000 |
| Brazil | $9,000 - $20,000 |
| Nigeria | $7,000 - $15,000 |
| India | $6,000 - $16,000 |
| Egypt | $6,000 - $13,000 |
| Ghana | $6,000 - $13,000 |
| Indonesia | $6,000 - $14,000 |
| Philippines | $6,000 - $14,000 |
| Pakistan | $5,000 - $12,000 |
| Bangladesh | $4,500 - $11,000 |
| Ethiopia | $4,000 - $9,500 |
Two notes for reading that table. First, the Gulf bands are tax-free - a $50,000 Saudi or UAE offer can out-net a nominally higher taxed offer elsewhere; run the comparison with the take-home pay calculator. Second, the emerging-market bands (India, Nigeria, the Philippines and others) look low in USD but are competitive locally, and those markets are where security hiring is growing fastest - country-level detail lives on our salary leaderboards →
What moves the number
- Certifications, in order of measured lift. Across our dataset, postings asking for CISSP correlate with roughly an $18,000 premium - but CISSP requires five years of experience, so for analysts the realistic ladder is CompTIA Security+ (about +$5,000, the interview door-opener) then CySA+ or a cloud security cert as the tier-2 differentiator. The full ranking by lift and live demand is at cert ROI →
- Cloud skills re-price the role. AWS is now the single most-demanded skill across our board (306 of 1,029 live security roles name it, ahead of Python at 294). An analyst who can investigate in CloudTrail instead of just a SIEM is interviewing for the engineer band, not the analyst one.
- Shift work and clearances carry premiums. 24/7 SOC night and weekend rotations typically add 10-15%, and cleared analyst seats at US defense contractors price above the commercial band - defense & clearance roles here.
- Remote widens your market, mostly at the senior end. 29% of live security roles are remote, but analyst seats skew on-site because juniors need someone senior nearby - the measured breakdown is in the remote cybersecurity jobs guide.
Am I being underpaid?
If your base sits below the bottom of your country's band above and your work has crossed into detection engineering, automation, or cloud investigation, you have a concrete case - bring the band, the job postings, and the work you actually do. Check your number against the market → And if the answer is a new employer: the live list is at security analyst jobs, with the SOC-specific path in the SOC analyst salary guide and the way in (if you are not there yet) in how to become a SOC analyst →
